The end of an era. Leaving St. Mark’s on October 14th, Mr. Golden said goodbye to the SM community. Mr. Golden worked as a librarian at St. Mark's for the past 5 years. He was an advisor, bibliophile, cook, and teacher of the Lion Term class “Food and Culture” alongside Dr. Glomset during spring last year. Mr. Golden was a professional cook who originally worked for a flatbread company. Initially, the class was to be focused on French food but eventually shifted to encompass all world foods. With a focus on eating sustainably, Dr. Glomset and Mr. Golden voyaged to many different local farms alongside their students.
While reflecting on the class, Dr. Glomset noted that some of the class’ highlights included the group’s trips to a local Arminian farm where they gathered produce from, traveled to various restaurants, experienced fabulous sushi at a restaurant in Sudbury, and spoke to members of FLIK about food waste and becoming a more sustainable school. Another highlight includes the creation of the group’s coveted signature dish: the blueberry kuchen. A very standard dessert recipe, the treat was quickly decimated with no remains left. Only containing about eleven ingredients, the straightforward and delicious recipe is perfect for all occasions. [link recipe and picture here]

Aside from Mr. Golden’s excellent culinary skills, he was also exceptionally skilled at solving Rubik’s Cubes, helping Grace Lee ‘23 solve one once and showing her his extensive Rubiks Cube collection.
A kind and outgoing member of the St. Mark’s community, Mr. Golden consistently showed compassion and shared fun experiences with everyone he met while at SM. The SM community bids him farewell as he heads to work as a librarian and helps out with acquisitions work at Framingham State University.
